Security Grilles
Security grilles are a great option for buildings needing airflow and visibility. Rolling security grilles prevent vehicular and pedestrian entry and they have various aesthetic looks including brick and standard curtain link and rod design. They are available in galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminum.

Interior applications include shopping malls, schools or convention centers. Commercial rolling security grilles are a great choice for almost any application. They also integrate with a variety of access control systems and are designed for easy operation and longevity. There are two types of grilles, rolling and accordion-style grilles. Side-folding grilles are available in open air and full closure models and feature multiple styles, patterns and colors.
Rolling Security Grilles Features & Options – Parking Garages
- Grille curtain has fixed panel assembly available.
- Hood and operator covers available.
- Curtain finishes – mill, clear anodized, aluminum and stainless steel.
- Patterns – brick and standard. Also, the smooth finish roll down gate model.
- High Cycle Springs (10K-1M cycle options).
- Speeds up to 24” per second, high speed doors are an alternative.
- Finishes – Powder coat finish in more than 180 colors is available on perimeter components such as the aluminum bottom bar, hoods, wall angles, tubes and fascia. This finish is not available on the grille curtain.
- Operation – Commercial operator as recommended use.
- Wind Load – Can withstand a static wind load of up to 40 psf. For operational, can withstand operational wind load up to 20 psf.
- Locking options – a wide variety of options are available.
- Sloping or Irregular Openings – Bottom bar designs available.
- Trim package available.
Rolling Security Gates Features & Options – Storefront or Counter Option
- Types – Accordion, side-folding.
- Standard construction up to 40′ wide x 20’ high.
- Metal mesh grille options – 5 curtain designs, also offer etching which will allow you to display your logo, branding or any design you would like. Also, glazed panel grilles available.
- Automatic response gate model available with AlarmGard Operator.
- Daily use, built for up to 5 cycles per day depending on the curtain and spring configuration. Other models provide above 5 cycles if needed.
- High Cycle Springs (10K-300K cycle options).
- Operation – Push up, hand chain, internal or external motor operation.
- Chain Diverter for MGH operators.
- Hood and operator covers available.
- Finishes – Powder coat finish in more than 180 colors is available on perimeter components such as the aluminum bottom bar, hoods, wall angles, tubes and fascia. This finish is not available on the grille curtain.

- Manual release system – If egress is required on a motorized grille, a wall mounted pull handle disengages the motor to allow the grill to partially open.
- Combination doors – Combine two different slat profiles in the same curtain. Typically, a standard slat is combined with a perforated slat or even rolling grille for ventilation and security.
- Countertops are available for a complete counter shutter closure solution, and can be UL rated.
- Multiple mullion options – corner, fixed and removable.
- Sloping or Irregular Openings – Bottom bar designs available.
- Superimposed Doors – Combine two different curtains on the same opening. Typically, an insulated door is used in conjunction with an open design rolling grille to provide ventilation. When extreme weather or sound resistance is desired, we can provide superimposed/double insulated curtain assemblies.
Rolling Security Grilles & Security Gate Common Repairs
- Curtain misalignment.
- Spring barrel replacement and hood bracket replacement.
- Full curtain and/or worn or damaged links and rods.
- Guide repair or replacement.
- Reduction gear assembly.
- Bottom bar and astragal replacement.
- Safety sensor misalignment (if automated) or Miller’s Edge malfunctioning.

Rolling Security Grilles & Security Gate Maintenance
It is recommended to lubricate all moving parts every six months to one year. More frequent use doors will require more frequent lubrication. Regular maintenance should include checking the following items:
- Inspect curtain and bracket alignment and ensure it is level and is moving through opening smoothly.
- Check curtain components (licks and rods and guides).
- Inspect fasteners connecting curtain to barrel are in place and securely fastened.
- Check to ensure hood isn’t dented or damaged and/or rubbing against the curtain and that the hood is level.
- Inspect bottom bar and fasteners to ensure in place and make sure it is tightened and not damaged.
- Inspect locking mechanisms for functionality – security gates.
- Inspect guides and hood for damage.
- Check spring tension in the spring barrel.
- Inspect and lubricate bearings.
- Check sprockets and sprocket key for alignment and ensure it is fastened with set screws.
- Inspect stops to ensure none are missing, loose or broken.
- Inspect and lubricate chain hoist or commercial operator.
- Check sensing edge and/or safety sensors for proper functionality.
